Award for Bachelor's and Master's theses

The Network for Vignette and Anecdotal Research presents the VignA Award once a year as part of a VignA conference.

The target group for the nomination respectively presentation of the award are Bachelor's and Master's students who make a socio-critical claim in their theses and utilise research methods that are applied within the VignA network.

The application window is open until 31.08.2027.

For an application please enclose:

  • Bachelor's or Master's thesis in pdf-format
  • Expert opinion/evaluation on the Bachelor's or Master's thesis
  • Abstract (max. 300 words)

 

Criteria and structure of the thesis:

  • Preference will be given to applications that have a theoretical AND/OR empirical approach
  • Independence (independent lines of thought/methodological approaches, critical engagement with the topic)
  • Innovative research questions/innovative theoretical and methodological approaches

Content criteria:

  • Precise and distinct delineation and definition of the problem/research question
  • Clear concept for addressing the research question (research approach, methodology)
  • Coherent and logical structure of the thesis (outline and consistent sequence of chapters)
  • Review of the literature relevant to the research question and approach
  • Comprehensible and convincing line of arguments
  • Analytical depth of the argumentation
  • Consistent, clear definitions and premises
  • Precise and complete description and justification of the study design
  • Appropriate use of the selected research and analytical tools
  • Adequate/correct interpretation of the empirical results
  • Clear presentation and derivation of the results
  • Consistency between the problem statement and the results
  • Analysis/interpretation of the results within the framework of the theoretical framework

VignA-Award procedure:

  • Step 1: Reference from a supervisor (once a year).
  • Step 2: The selection is made by the VignA core team.
  • Step 3: The awards are granted once a year at a VignA conference.
